Description

A vulnerability has been identified in APOGEE MBC (PPC) (BACnet) (All versions), APOGEE MBC (PPC) (P2 Ethernet) (All versions), APOGEE MEC (PPC) (BACnet) (All versions), APOGEE MEC (PPC) (P2 Ethernet) (All versions), APOGEE PXC Compact (BACnet) (All versions < V3.5.7), APOGEE PXC Compact (P2 Ethernet) (All versions < V2.8.21), APOGEE PXC Modular (BACnet) (All versions < V3.5.7), APOGEE PXC Modular (P2 Ethernet) (All versions < V2.8.21), TALON TC Compact (BACnet) (All versions < V3.5.7), TALON TC Modular (BACnet) (All versions < V3.5.7). The affected product web service does not properly validate user input in multipart handling. This could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects multiple Siemens building automation products using BACnet or P2 Ethernet protocols. The issue is in the web service's multipart input handling, where improper validation allows unauthenticated remote attackers to cause a denial of service by exploiting this weakness.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves improper input validation in the web service of affected products. Detection may require network scanning for vulnerable devices and checking software versions. Use commands like 'nmap -sV <target>' to identify services and versions. Inspect web server responses for multipart handling errors or crashes.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could disrupt building automation systems by causing them to become unresponsive or crash. This may lead to loss of control over HVAC, lighting, or security systems in affected environments like offices or industrial facilities.

Compliance Impact

The vulnerability allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to cause a denial of service by exploiting improper input validation in the web service. This could disrupt critical building automation systems, potentially leading to unauthorized access or system unavailability. Such disruptions may impact compliance with standards requiring availability and integrity of systems, such as GDPR (data processing availability) or HIPAA (system reliability for protected health information).

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update affected products to the latest patched versions: APOGEE PXC Compact (BACnet) V3.5.7+, APOGEE PXC Compact (P2 Ethernet) V2.8.21+, APOGEE PXC Modular (BACnet) V3.5.7+, APOGEE PXC Modular (P2 Ethernet) V2.8.21+, TALON TC Compact (BACnet) V3.5.7+, TALON TC Modular (BACnet) V3.5.7+. Isolate vulnerable systems from critical networks until patched.
