Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects the Joomla extension TF Content versions 2.9.0 to 2.9.4. It allows unauthenticated users to force the execution of published automation tasks via the exposed site task `records.custom_action`. No authentication, ACL, CSRF, or other security checks are enforced, enabling any guest to trigger tasks by supplying a numeric task ID.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to execute unauthorized actions on your Joomla site, such as modifying content, triggering unintended workflows, or performing administrative tasks without permission. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized changes, or disruption of site functionality.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements by enabling unauthorized access or modifications to sensitive data, such as user information or protected content. GDPR and HIPAA require strict access controls and audit trails; this flaw undermines those controls, potentially leading to non-compliance and associated penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update TF Content to the latest version to patch the vulnerability. Disable or remove the TF Content extension if an update is not available. Review and restrict access to the site task `records.custom_action` in Joomla's configuration. Monitor network traffic for unauthorized task executions.
