Description

The Tourfic – AI Powered Travel Booking, Hotel Booking & Car Rental plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'type' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.0.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The wp_kses_post filter applied on save does not strip the payload because angle-bracket characters are not required, allowing the unescaped attribute value to survive storage and fire as a live event handler in the unauthenticated (guest) rendering branch.

Authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher can inject malicious scripts into web pages. These scripts execute when users visit the affected pages, even for unauthenticated guests.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability can be detected by checking WordPress sites using the Tourfic plugin versions up to 3.0.1 for stored XSS via the 'type' parameter. Inspect plugin files for unsanitized input handling in the 'type' parameter and review stored payloads in pages or posts. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability allows attackers to inject arbitrary scripts into your WordPress site. This could lead to theft of user sessions, defacement of pages, or redirection to malicious sites. Users visiting infected pages may have their data compromised or be exposed to further attacks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for protecting user data. It may result in unauthorized access to personal or sensitive information, triggering compliance violations and potential legal penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Tourfic plugin to version 3.0.2 or later immediately to patch the vulnerability. If updating is not possible, disable the plugin until an update is available. Review user roles with contributor-level access or higher for any suspicious activity.
