Executive Summary

Adobe FrameMaker has an out-of-bounds write vulnerability that allows arbitrary code execution when a user opens a malicious file. This occurs because the software fails to properly validate memory access, enabling attackers to write data beyond intended boundaries.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking for vulnerable versions of Adobe FrameMaker. Use the following commands to identify installed versions: On Windows, check installed programs via 'wmic product get name, version' or 'Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Product'. On macOS/Linux, inspect package managers like 'dpkg -l | grep FrameMaker' or 'rpm -qa | grep FrameMaker'.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to run malicious code on your system with the same privileges as your user account. This could lead to data theft, system damage, or installation of additional malware. Since exploitation requires opening a file, users should avoid untrusted files.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Adobe FrameMaker to the latest patched version. Disable opening files from untrusted sources. Implement application whitelisting to restrict execution of FrameMaker. Monitor for suspicious activity or files. Apply the principle of least privilege to user accounts.
