Description

The Sunshine Photo Cart – Client Photo Gallery & Photo Proofing for Photographers plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to PHP Object Injection in all versions up to, and including, 3.7.4 via deserialization of untrusted input . This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject a PHP Object. No known POP chain is present in the vulnerable software, which means this vulnerability has no impact unless another plugin or theme containing a POP chain is installed on the site. If a POP chain is present via an additional plugin or theme installed on the target system, it may allow the attacker to perform actions like delete arbitrary files, retrieve sensitive data, or execute code depending on the POP chain present. If a POP chain is present via an additional plugin or theme installed on the target system, the attacker can store the malicious payload unauthenticated via the public favorites page and trigger deserialization by viewing any image in a non-viewable or private gallery.

Executive Summary

The Sunshine Photo Cart WordPress plugin up to version 3.7.4 has a PHP Object Injection vulnerability due to unsafe deserialization of user input. Attackers can inject malicious PHP objects without authentication. Exploitation requires another plugin or theme with a POP chain to achieve code execution, file deletion, or data theft.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking if the Sunshine Photo Cart plugin version 3.7.4 or older is installed on your WordPress site. You can use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WP-CLI or check the plugin directory for the plugin files. Additionally, monitor for unauthorized file modifications or suspicious activity in galleries.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, attackers could delete files, steal sensitive data, or run arbitrary code on your WordPress site. This requires another vulnerable plugin or theme to be present for full impact. The vulnerability allows unauthenticated storage of malicious payloads via the public favorites page.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Sunshine Photo Cart plugin to the latest version beyond 3.7.4. If an update is unavailable, consider disabling or removing the plugin until a patch is released. Review all installed plugins and themes for POP chains that could exploit this vulnerability.
