Description

A vulnerability was identified in kishor-23 food-waste-management-system 411989e3ecb82895e53dca7865f72145f03d7d93/b3a70b2c492dc9904de5be1ad9389bd79b87f82c. This affects an unknown function of the file admin/admin.php of the component Order Assignment Block. The manipulation of the argument order_id/delivery_person_id leads to sql injection. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. The exploit is publicly available and might be used. This product is using a rolling release to provide continious delivery. Therefore, no version details for affected nor updated releases are available. The project was informed of the problem early through an issue report but has not responded yet.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.
CWE-74 The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an unauthenticated SQL injection in the food waste management system. It exists in the admin/admin.php file where POST parameters 'order_id' and 'delivery_person_id' are directly embedded into SQL queries without sanitization. Attackers can inject malicious SQL into these parameters to modify database entries remotely.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SQL injection vulnerability, monitor POST requests to /admin/admin.php for parameters 'order_id' and 'delivery_person_id'. Use tools like SQLmap to test for injection by sending crafted inputs such as 'order_id=1' AND '1'='1' or 'delivery_person_id=1' OR 1=1. Check server logs for unusual database queries or errors indicating SQL syntax issues.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to manipulate database entries without authentication. They can change donor names, alter assignment states, create false delivery assignments, or extract data blindly from the database. The impact includes data tampering, unauthorized access, and potential disruption of food distribution operations.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized data access and tampering. GDPR requires protection of personal data, while HIPAA mandates secure handling of health-related information. A successful exploit may result in data breaches, violating these regulations and potentially leading to legal penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict access to /admin/admin.php by enforcing strict role-based authentication and session termination after failed checks. Sanitize and validate all inputs by casting 'order_id' and 'delivery_person_id' to integers. Replace direct SQL queries with prepared statements using parameterized queries. Implement CSRF tokens and add proper input validation to prevent hidden form field manipulation.
