Description

A security flaw has been discovered in kishor-23 food-waste-management-system 411989e3ecb82895e53dca7865f72145f03d7d93/b3a70b2c492dc9904de5be1ad9389bd79b87f82c. This impacts an unknown function of the file delivery/delivery.php of the component Take Order Handler. The manipulation of the argument order_id/delivery_person_id results in sql injection. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploit has been released to the public and may be used for attacks. This product takes the approach of rolling releases to provide continious delivery. Therefore, version details for affected and updated releases are not available. The project was informed of the problem early through an issue report but has not responded yet.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.
CWE-74 The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.

Executive Summary

This is an unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability in the food-waste-management-system. The flaw exists in the delivery/delivery.php file where user-supplied input from hidden form fields (order_id and delivery_person_id) is directly embedded into SQL queries without validation or sanitization. Attackers can manipulate these parameters to inject malicious SQL commands, potentially accessing or modifying sensitive data in the database.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SQL injection vulnerability, inspect the delivery/delivery.php file for direct use of order_id or delivery_person_id in SQL queries without sanitization. Check for hidden form fields in the application's frontend that submit these parameters. Use tools like SQLmap to test for SQL injection by sending crafted payloads to the vulnerable endpoint.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands. Potential impacts include unauthorized access to sensitive data, tampering with delivery assignments, claiming orders without permission, and potentially gaining full control over the database. Since the exploit has been publicly released, attacks may already be occurring.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates compliance requirements for GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized data access and potential exposure of personal information. GDPR requires protection of personal data, while HIPAA mandates safeguards for protected health information. The SQL injection could lead to data breaches, triggering mandatory breach notifications and significant regulatory penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the delivery/delivery.php file to use prepared statements for all SQL queries involving order_id or delivery_person_id. Cast input values to integers where applicable. Add exit() calls after session-based redirects to prevent unauthenticated access. Implement CSRF tokens for form submissions.
