Description

A flaw has been found in kishor-23 food-waste-management-system 411989e3ecb82895e53dca7865f72145f03d7d93/b3a70b2c492dc9904de5be1ad9389bd79b87f82c. The impacted element is an unknown function of the file delivery/deliverysignup.php of the component Registration Page. This manipulation of the argument username/email/location causes sql injection. The attack can be initiated remotely. The exploit has been published and may be used. Continious delivery with rolling releases is used by this product. Therefore, no version details of affected nor updated releases are available. The project was informed of the problem early through an issue report but has not responded yet.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.
CWE-74 The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.

Executive Summary

This is an unauthenticated boolean-based blind SQL injection vulnerability in the food-waste-management-system project. The flaw exists in the delivery/deliverysignup.php file where POST parameters like username, email, and location are directly embedded into SQL queries without proper escaping. An attacker can manipulate these parameters to inject malicious SQL code, enabling them to extract sensitive database information through boolean-based queries.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SQL injection vulnerability, monitor POST requests to delivery/deliverysignup.php for boolean-based blind SQLi patterns. Test with payloads like ' OR 1=1 -- in the email parameter. Use tools like sqlmap with: sqlmap -u "http://target/delivery/deliverysignup.php" --data="email=test@example.com" --batch --level=5 --risk=3. Check for delayed responses or errors indicating SQLi success.

Inspect database logs for unusual queries or failed login attempts. Enable PHP error logging in php.ini to catch SQL errors. Use Wireshark to capture traffic to the target URL for suspicious patterns.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to extract sensitive database information such as password hashes and other confidential data. It also enables the insertion of arbitrary delivery-person records into the database. In severe cases, it could lead to full database access, including superuser privileges, and arbitrary data manipulation.

Compliance Impact

This SQL injection vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, including user credentials and personal information, which is a direct violation of GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Unauthorized database access may result in data breaches, exposing protected health or personal data, leading to legal penalties and compliance failures.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately disable the delivery/deliverysignup.php page if possible. Apply input validation to sanitize username/email/location parameters. Replace direct SQL queries with prepared statements using parameterized queries for all database interactions.

Restrict database user privileges to least-privilege access. Monitor for unauthorized database changes or access. Update the application to the latest secure version once a patch is released by the project maintainers.
