Executive Summary

This is a Stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Tuleap Enterprise Edition versions 17.0 through 17.5. It allows an attacker to inject malicious script code that gets stored on the server and executed in a user's browser session when they access the affected page.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this Stored XSS vulnerability requires checking for vulnerable Tuleap Enterprise Edition versions (17.0 to 17.5). Inspect web application logs for unusual script injections or user inputs containing executable code. Review HTML responses for unescaped user-generated content. Use tools like OWASP ZAP or Burp Suite to scan for XSS vulnerabilities in the application.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal user session cookies, redirect users to malicious sites, or perform actions on behalf of users. This could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data or account takeover for users of the affected Tuleap instances.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's security rules for protected health information. Organizations may face compliance violations if user data is compromised through this exploit.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Tuleap Enterprise Edition to a version beyond 17.5. If upgrading is not possible, apply vendor-provided patches or hotfixes. Implement input validation and output encoding to prevent script injection. Restrict user permissions to minimize impact. Monitor for suspicious activities in web application logs.
