CWE ID Description
CWE-74 The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an SQL injection flaw in the Online-Appointment-Booking-System. It exists in the Login Handler component, specifically in the mysqli_query function of Admin/mlogin.php. Attackers can manipulate the uname and pass arguments to inject malicious SQL code, potentially accessing or modifying database contents.

Detection Guidance

To detect SQL injection vulnerabilities in the Online-Appointment-Booking-System, inspect the Admin/mlogin.php file for improper input validation in the mysqli_query function. Check for direct concatenation of user inputs (uname/pass) into SQL queries without sanitization. Use tools like SQLMap to test for SQL injection by sending crafted payloads to the login endpoint.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to bypass authentication, steal sensitive user data like login credentials or personal information, or alter/delete database records. Since the system handles appointments, attackers might access or manipulate booking data, leading to privacy breaches or service disruptions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing personal data. GDPR requires protecting personal data, and HIPAA mandates safeguarding health information. A breach could result in legal penalties, fines, and reputational damage due to unauthorized data access or leaks.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Online-Appointment-Booking-System to the latest version if available. If no update exists, implement input validation and parameterized queries for the uname and pass parameters in Admin/mlogin.php. Disable remote access to the login handler if not required. Monitor network traffic for suspicious SQL injection attempts.
