CWE ID Description
CWE-74 The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a SQL injection flaw in the Online-Appointment-Booking-System. It exists in the get_town.php file within the AJAX Endpoint component. Attackers can manipulate parameters like countryid, townid, cid, didval, or cidval to inject malicious SQL code, potentially accessing or altering database contents.

Detection Guidance

To detect SQL injection vulnerabilities in the Online-Appointment-Booking-System, monitor network traffic for suspicious requests targeting get_town.php. Look for unusual parameters like countryid, townid, cid, didval, or cidval with payloads such as ' OR '1'='1 or similar SQL syntax. Use tools like SQLmap to test for injection points by sending crafted inputs to these parameters.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands. This could lead to unauthorized data access, modification, or deletion in the appointment booking system's database. Sensitive user information like personal details or appointment records may be compromised.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and security. It could result in unauthorized access to personal health or appointment data, leading to legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust for organizations using this system.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict access to get_town.php by implementing firewall rules or disabling the AJAX Endpoint if not essential. Apply input validation to sanitize all parameters (countryid, townid, cid, didval, cidval) to prevent SQL injection. Update the system if a patch becomes available, though this product uses a rolling release with no fixed versions.
