Description

The ACPT (Premium) plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Remote Code Execution in all versions up to, and including, 2.0.66 via the render function. This is due to missing capability check on the REST API form creation endpoint and unsandboxed Twig environment rendering email templates. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to execute code on the server. The exploit requires the attacker to first create a form with malicious email_settings via the REST API endpoint, then trigger form submission to execute the injected Twig expressions.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Remote Code Execution flaw in the ACPT (Premium) WordPress plugin affecting versions up to 2.0.66. It allows authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access or higher to execute arbitrary code on the server by exploiting missing capability checks in the REST API form creation endpoint and an unsandboxed Twig environment used for rendering email templates.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress sites for the ACPT plugin versions up to 2.0.66. Look for unauthorized form creation via the REST API endpoint and review email template submissions for malicious Twig expressions. Monitor server logs for unexpected code execution or form submissions.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain full control of your WordPress site, allowing them to steal data, install malware, deface your site, or use it as a launchpad for further attacks. The exploit requires only subscriber-level access, making it accessible to low-privilege users.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or modification of sensitive data, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. A successful exploit may result in data breaches, triggering legal penalties and compliance violations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the ACPT (Premium) WordPress plugin to the latest patched version immediately to address the Remote Code Execution vulnerability. Ensure all WordPress installations and plugins are regularly updated to prevent exploitation.
