Assigner: Progress Software Corporation

Description

In Progress® Kendo® UI for jQuery prior to version 2026.3.1015, the Calendar and MultiViewCalendar month content templates render data.url and data.title without proper URL sanitization and HTML attribute encoding. An attacker with low privileges who can control the URL option or culture-derived title values can supply a JavaScript URL or inject event-handler attributes. When a user interacts with an affected calendar, JavaScript can execute in the user's browser context and compromise the confidentiality and integrity of accessible data.

Executive Summary

This is a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Progress Kendo UI for jQuery versions before 2026.3.1015. The Calendar and MultiViewCalendar components fail to properly sanitize URLs and HTML attributes in month content templates. An attacker with low privileges can inject JavaScript URLs or event-handler attributes via the URL option or culture-derived title values. When users interact with the affected calendar, the injected script executes in their browser, potentially compromising data confidentiality and integrity.

Detection Guidance

Check if your system uses Progress Kendo UI for jQuery versions prior to 2026.3.1015. Inspect calendar templates for unsanitized data.url or data.title values. Review browser console logs for script execution or event-handler attributes in calendar components.

Impact Analysis

If you use an affected version of Kendo UI for jQuery, an attacker could trick you into interacting with a malicious calendar. This could allow them to steal sensitive data, hijack your session, or perform actions on your behalf without your knowledge. The impact depends on the permissions of the logged-in user and the data accessible through the application.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal or sensitive data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Organizations using affected versions may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade to Kendo UI for jQuery version 2026.3.1015 or later. Apply input validation to URL and title values before rendering. Sanitize all dynamic content in calendar templates to prevent XSS attacks.
