CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a use-after-free issue in the Metrics component of Google Chrome versions prior to 155.0.8059.39. A use-after-free occurs when a program continues to use a pointer after the memory it points to has been freed, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution. In this case, a remote attacker who compromised the renderer process could exploit this flaw via a crafted HTML page to execute arbitrary code outside the sandbox.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on your system if you visit a malicious webpage. Since it enables code execution outside the sandbox, it could bypass security restrictions, potentially leading to data theft, malware installation, or system compromise. Users of vulnerable Chrome versions are at risk if they encounter such a page.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 155.0.8059.39 or later to address the use after free vulnerability in Metrics.
