Executive Summary

ELADMIN v2.7 and earlier has an improper access control flaw in the user-management endpoint PUT /api/users/resetPwd. The endpoint allows any authenticated user, regardless of role, to reset passwords for other users, including the built-in administrator, without proper authorization checks or ownership validation.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to reset passwords of any user, including administrators, gaining full control over the system. This could lead to unauthorized access, data theft, or system compromise.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements such as GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data security) by enabling unauthorized access to sensitive user data, leading to potential breaches and regulatory penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade ELADMIN to a version later than v2.7 where the user-management endpoint PUT /api/users/resetPwd has proper authorization checks. If upgrading is not immediately possible, restrict access to the vulnerable endpoint through network-level controls or disable the endpoint if not required.
