Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) in XXL-JOB 3.5.0-SNAPSHOT and earlier. The user management controller (JobUserController) has endpoints /user/insert, /user/update, and /user/delete that lack CSRF protection and do not restrict HTTP methods.

Detection Guidance

To detect this CSRF vulnerability in XXL-JOB 3.5.0-SNAPSHOT or earlier, inspect the user management endpoints (/user/insert, /user/update, /user/delete) for missing CSRF tokens or improper HTTP method restrictions. Check server logs for unauthorized POST requests to these endpoints without referrer checks or origin validation.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could trick a user into clicking a malicious link, leading to unauthorized changes in user management such as creating, updating, or deleting users without their consent.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or modifications to user data, potentially violating GDPR (data integrity and access controls) and HIPAA (unauthorized changes to sensitive health information).

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade to a patched version of XXL-JOB beyond 3.5.0-SNAPSHOT. If upgrading is not possible, implement CSRF tokens on the vulnerable endpoints and restrict HTTP methods to POST only. Add referrer or origin header checks to prevent unauthorized requests.
