Description

The FunnelKit – Funnel Builder for WooCommerce Checkout plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authorization bypass in all versions up to, and including, 3.16.0.6 This is due to the plugin not properly verifying that a user is authorized to perform an action. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to retrieve billing PII β€” including full name, street address, email address, and phone number β€” for any WooCommerce order on the site by submitting an enumerable sequential order ID. This is only exploitable on sites where a FunnelKit thank-you page exists that renders the [wfty_order_meta] or [wfty_order_total] shortcode.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an authorization bypass in the FunnelKit – Funnel Builder for WooCommerce Checkout plugin for WordPress. It allows unauthenticated attackers to retrieve sensitive billing information, including full name, address, email, and phone number, for any WooCommerce order by guessing sequential order IDs. The flaw exists because the plugin does not properly verify user authorization before granting access to this data.

Detection Guidance

Check for the presence of the FunnelKit plugin versions up to 3.16.0.6. Inspect WordPress sites for the [wfty_order_meta] or [wfty_order_total] shortcodes on thank-you pages. Monitor logs for unusual requests to order metadata endpoints.

Impact Analysis

If you use this plugin, attackers could steal customer PII, leading to privacy breaches, identity theft, or fraud. The impact depends on the number of orders processed and the sensitivity of the exposed data. Sites with a FunnelKit thank-you page using specific shortcodes are at higher risk.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates GDPR due to unauthorized access to personal data and potential failure to implement adequate security measures. For HIPAA, if the exposed data includes protected health information, it could lead to compliance violations. Organizations may face fines or legal consequences for non-compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the FunnelKit plugin to the latest version. Remove or disable the [wfty_order_meta] and [wfty_order_total] shortcodes if not needed. Implement strict access controls to prevent unauthorized data retrieval.
