Description

Floci 1.1.0 before 2.2.0 contains a code injection vulnerability in VtlTemplateEngine that allows unauthenticated attackers to execute commands via unrestricted Velocity mapping templates. Attackers can create a REST API with a MOCK integration whose template uses $util reflection to reach Runtime or ProcessBuilder, executing OS commands in the Floci JVM.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-108598 is a critical remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability in Floci versions 1.1.0 through 2.1.0. It allows unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands on the Floci JVM by exploiting unrestricted Velocity mapping templates in API Gateway integrations. Attackers use $util reflection to access dangerous Java classes like Runtime or ProcessBuilder, enabling command execution without authentication or user interaction.

Detection Guidance

Check Floci logs for suspicious API Gateway VTL template evaluations or unexpected command executions. Monitor network traffic on port 4566 for unusual REST API creation or MOCK integration requests. Inspect system processes for unexpected Java or JVM activity originating from Floci.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to fully compromise the Floci server by executing arbitrary commands with the privileges of the Floci process. This could lead to data theft, unauthorized access to sensitive files, or further lateral movement within the network. Since Floci is often used for local AWS emulation, attackers could also manipulate AWS service behaviors or exfiltrate credentials.

Compliance Impact

This RCE vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's security rules for protected health information. Organizations using vulnerable Floci versions may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage due to potential data breaches or unauthorized system access.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Floci to version 2.2.0 or later to apply the sandboxed VTL engine fix. Disable API Gateway control plane access if not required. Restrict network exposure of port 4566 to trusted sources only. Review IAM policies to ensure proper enforcement and prevent scope bypass.
