Executive Summary

JeecgBoot through version 3.9.5 has a missing authorization vulnerability in the SysTenantController passApply handler. This flaw allows any authenticated user to approve tenant administrator applications. Attackers can exploit this by filing a pending application via doApplyTenantPackUser and then approving it through a PUT request to /sys/tenant/passApply, thereby gaining tenant administrator pack permissions in any tenant.

Detection Guidance

Check for unauthorized approvals in tenant applications by reviewing logs for PUT /sys/tenant/passApply requests. Look for any authenticated user approving tenant administrator applications without proper authorization.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with access to an authenticated account could escalate privileges to become a tenant administrator. This could allow unauthorized control over tenant resources, data access, and administrative functions, potentially leading to data breaches or system misuse.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating compliance requirements such as GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's access controls. Organizations using affected JeecgBoot versions may face regulatory penalties, loss of trust, and legal consequences due to potential data exposure.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade JeecgBoot to version 3.9.6 or later. Implement strict access controls to ensure only authorized users can approve tenant applications. Review and audit all tenant administrator approvals for unauthorized activity.
