CWE ID Description
CWE-74 The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-108799 is an unauthenticated SQL injection flaw in the xcms content management system. It exists in the password recovery endpoint of the Admin console, specifically in the sendFindPwdMail() function. The vulnerability allows remote attackers to inject malicious SQL payloads into the email parameter without authentication, due to misconfigured security settings that exempt the Public controller from login checks. The application directly concatenates the email value into a SQL query without sanitization, enabling exploitation through boolean or time-based techniques.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SQL injection vulnerability, check if your xcms system allows unauthenticated access to /qt-admin.php/Public/sendFindPwdMail. Send a POST request with a malformed email parameter like 'admin[email]=test@test.com' OR 1=1-- and observe if the response differs from a normal invalid user message. Use time-based payloads like 'admin[email]=test@test.com' AND SLEEP(5)-- to confirm blind SQL injection.

  • Test unauthenticated access to /qt-admin.php/Public/sendFindPwdMail endpoint
Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to read sensitive data from the database, including administrator emails and MD5 password hashes. Attackers can also exploit it to perform blind SQL injection attacks, potentially gaining full control over the system. The impact includes data breaches, unauthorized access, and potential account takeovers if combined with other flaws.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates compliance requirements under GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized data access and potential data breaches. GDPR mandates protection of personal data, while HIPAA requires safeguarding protected health information. A successful exploit could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, resulting in regulatory penalties, legal liabilities, and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict access to the Public controller by implementing authentication checks. Replace all string-based SQL queries with parameterized queries. Add input validation for the email parameter to block SQL syntax. Implement rate limiting and CAPTCHA on password recovery endpoints. Review database user privileges to ensure least privilege access.

  • Apply authentication to Public controller endpoints
