Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a buffer overflow in Kamailio's sipt module, specifically in the function isup_get_calling_party within src/modules/sipt/ss7_parser.c. The issue arises when the argument length is manipulated, causing a buffer overflow. It can be exploited remotely and affects versions up to 6.0.7 and 6.1.3. Upgrading to versions 6.0.8 or 6.1.4 fixes the problem.

Detection Guidance

Check Kamailio version with 'kamailio -v' or 'kamailio -I'. If running versions 6.0.7 or 6.1.3 or earlier, the system is vulnerable. Monitor logs for sipt module errors or crashes during ISUP message processing.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability may allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary code by sending malformed ISUP messages. This could disrupt VoIP services, leading to call failures or system crashes. The impact depends on how Kamailio is deployed in your environment.

Mitigation Strategies
  • Upgrade Kamailio to version 6.0.8 or 6.1.4 immediately using package manager or source compilation.
  • Apply the patch 3667bebf8d0bea07ed16218fd921d07db87aeb21 if upgrading is not immediately possible.
  • Restart Kamailio service after upgrade to ensure patched version is active.
