CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.
CWE-74 The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability in Zen Cart 2.2.2 allows SQL injection in the admin/configuration.php file due to improper handling of the gID argument. The attack requires remote access and has high complexity but is exploitable with a publicly available exploit. The vendor notes that certain functions are not editable through normal admin UI.

Detection Guidance

Check for unauthorized modifications in admin/configuration.php or database entries related to set_function. Look for suspicious eval() usage in PHP files. Monitor for unexpected admin panel access or configuration changes.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to execute arbitrary system commands with the web server's privileges, leading to full server compromise, data theft, or destruction of the Zen Cart store. The attack requires administrative access but can be initiated remotely.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Zen Cart to the latest version. Remove eval() usage in admin/configuration.php. Restrict admin panel access to trusted IPs. Review database for unauthorized set_function entries. Apply input validation and output encoding.
