Executive Summary

This vulnerability in pH7Builder (pH7 Social Dating CMS) before version 18.6.0 involves a hard-coded API key in Tool.class.php that allows unauthenticated attackers to bypass API access checks by spoofing the Host header. Attackers can send a request with Host: localhost and the private API key dev772277 to retrieve sensitive user data.

Detection Guidance

Check for requests to the API with Host: localhost header and private_api_key=dev772277. Inspect Tool.class.php for hard-coded API key logic. Monitor for unauthorized access to sensitive user data like emails or bank details.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers can exploit this to access member emails, IP addresses, phone numbers, and bank account details by manipulating the Host header and using the hard-coded API key. This exposes sensitive user data and compromises privacy.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized access to personal and sensitive data. GDPR requires protection of personal data, while HIPAA mandates safeguards for protected health information. Exploitation could lead to non-compliance penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade pH7Builder to version 18.6.0 or later. Remove hard-coded API keys and enforce strict Host header validation. Restrict API access to trusted domains only.
