Executive Summary

CVE-2026-108969 is an authentication bypass vulnerability in the Online Examination System. It allows attackers to forge remember-me cookies named 'cookname' and 'cookid' to impersonate any user, including administrators, due to predictable user IDs and loose comparison in session validation.

Detection Guidance

Check for forged cookies named 'cookname' and 'cookid' in HTTP requests. Inspect session.php for loose comparison (==) of 'cookid' against database values. Verify if user IDs are predictable or default (e.g., '0' for new users, fixed admin ID). Monitor for unauthorized admin access or account takeovers.

Impact Analysis

An attacker can gain unauthorized access to administrative functions, exam data, and system controls. This includes taking over admin accounts, accessing sensitive exam information, and potentially altering system settings without valid credentials.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and access control. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable remember-me functionality. Replace loose comparison (==) with strict comparison (===) in session.php. Regenerate all user IDs to unpredictable values. Restrict admin access to trusted IPs. Update to a patched version if available. Review logs for suspicious cookie manipulation.
