Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an unrestricted file upload flaw in SourceCodester Library Management System 1.0. It exists in the admin/add_admin.php file where the move_uploaded_file function improperly handles the image argument. Attackers can manipulate this argument to upload malicious files remotely without restrictions.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking for unrestricted file uploads in the SourceCodester Library Management System 1.0. Inspect the admin/add_admin.php file for improper validation of the image parameter. Look for unexpected file types or executable scripts in upload directories.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to upload malicious files like web shells or scripts to the server. This may lead to remote code execution, data theft, or complete system compromise. The public availability of exploit code increases the risk of widespread attacks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unrestricted file uploads, which could lead to unauthorized access or execution of malicious files. This may violate compliance requirements under GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data security) by exposing sensitive data or systems to compromise.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict file uploads to trusted file types and validate file extensions server-side. Ensure the move_uploaded_file function in admin/add_admin.php enforces strict checks. Disable uploads if not essential or implement a web application firewall to block malicious uploads.
