Executive Summary

LogicalDOC Community Edition through version 9.3 has a missing authorization vulnerability in the ConvertPdf servlet. This flaw allows authenticated users to download restricted PDF documents by exploiting sequential document IDs and the version parameter. Attackers can retrieve any PDF and its versions from folders they do not have access to.

Detection Guidance

Check for unauthorized access to the ConvertPdf servlet by monitoring requests to /convertpdf with sequential docId values and version parameters. Look for unusual PDF downloads from restricted folders in server logs.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with authenticated access could download sensitive PDF documents they are not authorized to view. This includes confidential files, proprietary data, or other restricted content stored in the system. The impact depends on the sensitivity of the documents exposed.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating compliance requirements such as GDPR (data protection) or HIPAA (health information privacy). Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust due to data breaches resulting from this flaw.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest LogicalDOC Community Edition patch or update to version 9.4 or higher. Restrict access to the ConvertPdf servlet by implementing proper authorization checks in the application layer.
