Description

Crawl4AI 0.7.0 before 0.9.4 contains a server-side request forgery vulnerability that allows API clients to reach internal addresses by enabling link_preview_config on /crawl requests. Attackers can supply a controlled page with include_external and include_patterns set, causing AsyncUrlSeeder to fetch internal, private, and cloud-metadata links and return their parsed head data.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-109238 is a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in Crawl4AI versions 0.7.0 to 0.9.3. It occurs when the link-preview feature allows API clients to fetch internal, private, or cloud-metadata addresses by enabling link_preview_config on /crawl requests. Attackers can set include_external and include_patterns to bypass controls, causing the server to fetch and return parsed head data from these restricted links.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor outbound network requests from your Crawl4AI instances, particularly those involving the /crawl endpoint with link_preview_config enabled. Check for requests to internal, private, or cloud-metadata addresses. Review logs for any GET requests to unexpected destinations or unusual patterns in HTTP client activity.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to make unauthorized GET requests to internal systems, discover internal services, and access sensitive information like page titles, application names, versions, CSRF tokens, and internal URLs. It can also enable DNS rebinding attacks due to improper redirect handling.

Compliance Impact

This SSRF vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to internal systems and disclosure of sensitive data, which may violate GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information if such data is exposed.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Crawl4AI to version 0.9.4 or later. If upgrading is not possible, disable the link_preview_config parameter in /crawl requests, restrict outbound network access to trusted destinations, and enable authentication for the /crawl endpoint. Review and remove any existing link_preview_config settings in API requests.
