Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an information disclosure issue in ImageMagick's TGA image decoder. It occurs due to an uninitialized memory read, allowing attackers to craft a malicious TGA image that exposes sensitive memory contents from the ImageMagick process when processed.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the installed version of ImageMagick using commands like 'convert --version' or 'magick --version'. If the version is before 6.9.13-57 or 7.x before 7.1.2-32, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could exploit this to read sensitive data from memory, potentially including credentials, keys, or other confidential information processed by ImageMagick. This could lead to further attacks or data breaches if exploited.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized exposure of personal or sensitive data, violating GDPR's data protection principles and HIPAA's confidentiality requirements. Organizations may face compliance penalties if such breaches occur due to unpatched systems.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update ImageMagick to version 6.9.13-57 or later for the 6.x branch, or 7.1.2-32 or later for the 7.x branch. Apply patches from official ImageMagick repositories or trusted sources.
