Description

ImageMagick before 6.9.13-57 and 7.x before 7.1.2-32 contains a memory leak in the SVG encoder (WriteSVGImage) that fails to release allocated memory when handling crafted images. Attackers can supply crafted image files that are processed by the SVG encoder to leak memory and cause a denial of service through resource consumption.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-109262 is a memory leak vulnerability in ImageMagick's SVG encoder (WriteSVGImage). When processing crafted images, the encoder fails to release allocated memory, causing resource exhaustion. This leads to denial-of-service conditions as memory is consumed without being freed.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the installed version of ImageMagick using the command: convert --version or identify --version. If the version is below 6.9.13-57 or 7.1.2-32, the system is vulnerable. Monitor memory usage during image processing tasks for unexpected increases.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to supply specially crafted images that trigger memory leaks. This can cause system slowdowns, crashes, or service disruptions due to resource exhaustion. Systems processing untrusted images are particularly at risk.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade ImageMagick to version 6.9.13-57 or later for ImageMagick 6, or 7.1.2-32 or later for ImageMagick 7. Apply patches from the official ImageMagick GitHub repository or use your package manager to update the software.
