Executive Summary

Frappe versions before 15.113.3 and 16.x before 16.25.0 have a missing authorization vulnerability. Authenticated users can exploit certain endpoints to modify records beyond their assigned role permissions due to improper authorization checks.

Impact Analysis

Authenticated users with limited permissions could escalate privileges and perform unauthorized actions like modifying or deleting records they should not access. This could lead to data corruption, unauthorized data exposure, or system misuse.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements that mandate strict access controls and data integrity, such as GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's access control safeguards. Unauthorized modifications could result in non-compliance penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Frappe to version 15.113.3 or later for Frappe 15.x, or to version 16.25.0 or later for Frappe 16.x to address the missing authorization checks.
