Executive Summary

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.119.1 and 16.x before 16.32.0 have a missing authorization flaw where certain endpoints do not enforce proper permission checks. This allows authenticated low-privileged users to modify documents and data beyond their assigned role permissions.

Impact Analysis

Authenticated low-privileged users could escalate privileges by modifying sensitive data or documents they should not have access to. This could lead to unauthorized changes, data corruption, or exposure of confidential information.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements by allowing unauthorized data modifications or access, potentially breaching GDPR (data integrity/confidentiality) or HIPAA (protected health information integrity).

Mitigation Strategies

Update Frappe ERPNext to version 15.119.1 or later if using version 15.x, or to version 16.32.0 or later if using version 16.x. This addresses the missing authorization vulnerability by enforcing proper permission checks.
