Executive Summary

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.120.0 and 16.x before 16.33.0 have a missing authorization vulnerability. Authenticated low-privileged users can access certain endpoints that do not enforce proper permission checks, allowing them to read personal data beyond their assigned role permissions.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows low-privileged users to access sensitive personal data they are not authorized to see. This could lead to unauthorized data exposure, privacy breaches, or misuse of confidential information stored in the ERPNext system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates data protection regulations such as GDPR and HIPAA by enabling unauthorized access to personal and sensitive data. Organizations using affected versions may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage due to insufficient data access controls.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Frappe ERPNext to version 15.120.0 or later if using 15.x, or to 16.33.0 or later if using 16.x. This addresses the missing authorization vulnerability by enforcing proper permission checks.
