Executive Summary

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.121.3 and 16.x before 16.35.0 have a missing authorization vulnerability. Authenticated users can access certain endpoints that should be restricted by role-based permissions, allowing them to read financial data beyond their assigned role's privileges.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, review ERPNext server logs for unauthorized access attempts to financial data endpoints. Check for requests to endpoints like /api/method/frappe.client.get_list or /api/method/frappe.desk.reportview.get with parameters indicating financial data queries.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows unauthorized users to view sensitive financial data they are not permitted to access. It could lead to data breaches, financial fraud, or compliance violations depending on the exposed information.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Frappe ERPNext to version 15.121.3 or later for v15.x, or 16.35.0 or later for v16.x. Review and enforce role-based access controls for all financial data endpoints. Audit user permissions and revoke unnecessary access to financial modules.
