Executive Summary

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.110.0 and 16.x before 16.21.0 have a missing authorization vulnerability. Certain endpoints do not enforce authorization checks, allowing unauthenticated remote attackers to create records and check availability even when an administrator has disabled the feature.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect network traffic for unauthorized API calls to Frappe ERPNext endpoints. Check server logs for unexpected record creation events or enumeration attempts. Verify if unauthenticated requests are reaching restricted endpoints.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to create unauthorized records and check system availability without authentication. It could lead to data manipulation, unauthorized access, or disruption of normal operations in the ERPNext system.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Frappe ERPNext to version 15.110.0 or later if using 15.x, or to 16.21.0 or later if using 16.x. Review and restrict access to sensitive endpoints. Implement strict authentication and authorization checks for all API calls.
