CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.106.0 and 16.x before 16.16.0 have an SQL injection vulnerability in certain endpoints. This flaw occurs because the application fails to properly validate user input. Attackers with low privileges and authentication can exploit this by sending specially crafted requests to inject malicious SQL code. This allows them to extract sensitive data from the database.

Impact Analysis

If you use a vulnerable version of Frappe ERPNext, an attacker could gain unauthorized access to sensitive information stored in the database. This includes customer data, financial records, or other confidential business information. The attacker only needs low-level authentication privileges to exploit this issue.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. Unauthorized access to personal or sensitive data can result in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage for organizations failing to protect this information.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Frappe ERPNext to version 15.106.0 or later if using 15.x, or to 16.16.0 or later if using 16.x. Apply the latest security patches immediately to prevent SQL injection attacks.
