CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an SQL injection flaw in Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.106.0 and 16.x before 16.16.0. It occurs due to missing input validation in certain endpoints, allowing authenticated attackers to inject malicious SQL code into database queries and potentially extract sensitive data.

Impact Analysis

Authenticated attackers could exploit this to access or manipulate sensitive database information, leading to data breaches, unauthorized data exposure, or potential system compromise. The impact depends on the database contents and attacker privileges.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations by enabling unauthorized data access or disclosure. Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and mandatory breach notifications if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Frappe ERPNext to version 15.106.0 or later if using 15.x, or to 16.16.0 or later if using 16.x. Ensure all instances are patched to prevent SQL injection attacks via crafted requests.
