CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.102.0 and 16.x before 16.11.0 have an SQL injection vulnerability in certain endpoints due to insufficient input validation. This flaw allows authenticated attackers to manipulate database queries by sending specially crafted requests, potentially extracting sensitive data from the database.

Impact Analysis

Authenticated attackers could exploit this to access or steal sensitive information stored in the database, such as user credentials, financial data, or other confidential records. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized access, or further compromise of the system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations by enabling unauthorized access to personal or sensitive data. Organizations may face legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage due to data breaches resulting from this flaw.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Frappe ERPNext to version 15.102.0 or later if using 15.x, or to 16.11.0 or later if using 16.x. Apply patches immediately as this vulnerability allows authenticated attackers to perform SQL injection and extract sensitive data.
