Executive Summary

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.113.0 and 16.x before 16.24.0 have a missing authorization flaw. Authenticated users can access certain endpoints that should be restricted by their role permissions. This allows them to read financial data beyond what their assigned role permits.

Impact Analysis

If you use Frappe ERPNext, an attacker with valid credentials could exploit this to access sensitive financial data they are not authorized to view. This could lead to data breaches, financial fraud, or unauthorized transactions depending on the exposed data.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements such as GDPR (data protection) or HIPAA (healthcare data privacy) by allowing unauthorized access to sensitive financial or personal data. Organizations may face legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage if such breaches occur due to unpatched systems.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Frappe ERPNext to version 15.113.0 or later if using 15.x, or to 16.24.0 or later if using 16.x. Ensure proper role-based access controls are enforced and audit endpoint permissions.
