CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.113.0 and 16.x before 16.22.0 have an SQL injection vulnerability due to insufficient input validation in certain endpoints. Authenticated remote attackers can exploit this by sending specially crafted requests to manipulate database queries and steal sensitive data.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could extract sensitive information from the database, such as user credentials, financial data, or other confidential records. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized access to systems, and potential misuse of extracted data.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, and other regulations due to unauthorized data access or exposure. Organizations may face legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage if sensitive data is compromised through this flaw.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Frappe ERPNext to version 15.113.0 or later if using version 15.x, or to version 16.22.0 or later if using version 16.x. Ensure all endpoints are reviewed for proper input validation to prevent SQL injection.
