Executive Summary

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.110.0 and 16.x before 16.21.0 have a missing authorization flaw in endpoints managing party records. Authenticated users with low privileges can exploit this to modify data outside their allowed role by sending requests to these endpoints.

Impact Analysis

Attackers with low-privileged accounts could make unauthorized changes to party records, potentially altering sensitive information like customer or supplier details. This could lead to data corruption, financial discrepancies, or unauthorized access to restricted data.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data modifications, violating integrity requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties, loss of trust, and potential data breaches if sensitive records are altered without authorization.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Frappe ERPNext to version 15.110.0 or later if using 15.x, or to 16.21.0 or later if using 16.x. Review and restrict access to party record endpoints to ensure only authorized users can modify data.
