Executive Summary

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.110.0 and 16.x before 16.21.0 have a missing authorization vulnerability. Authenticated low-privileged users can exploit certain endpoints to change record statuses without proper role-based access checks. This allows them to modify data beyond their permitted permissions.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with low privileges could escalate their access to modify sensitive data, such as financial records, employee information, or customer data. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized transactions, or compliance violations.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate data protection regulations like GDPR or HIPAA by allowing unauthorized access or modification of personal or sensitive data. Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, or loss of compliance certifications.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Frappe ERPNext to version 15.110.0 or later if using version 15.x, or to version 16.21.0 or later if using version 16.x. Ensure proper authorization checks are enforced on all endpoints to prevent unauthorized data modifications by low-privileged users.
