CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.98.0 and 16.x before 16.6.0 have an SQL injection vulnerability due to missing input validation in some endpoints. This allows remote authenticated attackers to send crafted requests that manipulate database queries and extract sensitive information.

Impact Analysis

If you use a vulnerable version of Frappe ERPNext, attackers with valid credentials could access sensitive data stored in the database, such as user information, financial records, or other confidential details.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access, potentially violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (healthcare data privacy) by exposing personal or sensitive information. Compliance may be compromised if proper data safeguards are not maintained.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Frappe ERPNext to version 15.98.0 or later if using 15.x, or to 16.6.0 or later if using 16.x. Ensure input validation is implemented for all endpoints to prevent SQL injection.
