Executive Summary

The Otter Blocks WordPress plugin before version 3.2.3 has an unauthenticated open redirect vulnerability in its Stripe Checkout block. It fails to validate user-supplied return URLs, allowing attackers to redirect users who complete or cancel a Stripe Checkout session to an arbitrary external URL.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the Otter Blocks WordPress plugin. If it is below 3.2.3, the system is vulnerable. Use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WordPress CLI or inspect the plugin files directly.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow attackers to trick users into visiting malicious websites after they interact with a Stripe Checkout session. Users might be redirected to phishing pages or sites hosting malware, potentially leading to credential theft or malware infections.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially affect compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by enabling phishing attacks through unauthenticated open redirects. Attackers may trick users into visiting malicious sites after Stripe Checkout, risking data exposure or unauthorized transactions. However, the provided context does not explicitly link this issue to specific compliance violations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Otter Blocks plugin to version 3.2.3 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the Stripe Checkout block or the entire plugin until the update is applied.
