Authorization Bypass in LPagery WordPress Plugin

Description

The Bulk Page Generator – LPagery plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authorization bypass in all versions up to, and including, 3.1.0 This is due to the plugin not properly verifying that a user is authorized to perform an action. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to create, modify, and delete LPagery-managed WordPress pages and bulk page-generation processes that are otherwise restricted to administrators. On default fresh installations where Freemius has not been opted into, the AES-256-CBC key used to validate Bearer tokens collapses to the publicly known SHA-256 hash of an empty string, making the token entirely forgeable by any authenticated user.

Executive Summary

The Bulk Page Generator – LPagery WordPress plugin up to version 3.1.0 has an authorization bypass vulnerability. It fails to properly verify user permissions for actions, allowing authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access or higher to create, modify, or delete pages and bulk page-generation processes that should be restricted to administrators.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress installations for the Bulk Page Generator – LPagery plugin versions up to 3.1.0. Look for unauthorized page creation, modification, or deletion by non-admin users. Review Bearer token validation logs for forgeable tokens.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to alter or delete important WordPress pages, disrupt website functionality, or perform unauthorized bulk page generation. On default installations without Freemius, the vulnerability is more severe as tokens can be forged by any authenticated user.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Bulk Page Generator – LPagery plugin to the latest version. Restrict subscriber-level access to sensitive actions. Monitor page changes and revoke unauthorized tokens. Disable the plugin if not in use.
