Description

FastBee through 2.1.0 contains an insecure direct object reference vulnerability in DeviceController that allows authenticated low-privilege users to read and modify other tenants' devices by supplying sequential device IDs. Self-registered attackers can enumerate deviceId or serialNumber values to read owner, IP, and location data, and overwrite user_id and tenant_id to take over devices.

Executive Summary

FastBee through version 2.1.0 has an insecure direct object reference flaw in the DeviceController component. Authenticated users with low privileges can access or modify devices belonging to other tenants by guessing sequential device IDs. Attackers who self-register can enumerate device IDs or serial numbers to view sensitive data like owner details, IP addresses, and locations. They can also overwrite user and tenant IDs to take control of devices.

Impact Analysis

If you use FastBee, an attacker could gain unauthorized access to your devices, steal sensitive data such as device locations or owner information, or even take control of your devices by altering identifiers. This could lead to privacy breaches, data leaks, or disruption of device operations.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR due to unauthorized access to personal data and potential data breaches. For HIPAA, if device data includes protected health information, unauthorized access or modification could violate compliance requirements. Organizations may face legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update FastBee to the latest version beyond 2.1.0 to patch the insecure direct object reference vulnerability. Review and restrict access controls to prevent low-privilege users from enumerating device IDs or modifying tenant data. Monitor network traffic for unusual device ID or serial number enumeration attempts.
