Description

The CP Multi View Events Calendar plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'CalendarTitle' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.4.42 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This requires that an administrator has enabled the "Allow edition in frontend?" option on at least one calendar view, which exposes the unauthenticated add endpoint and a publicly accessible nonce.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the CP Multi View Events Calendar WordPress plugin. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts via the CalendarTitle parameter due to poor input sanitization and output escaping. The scripts execute when users access infected pages.

Detection Guidance

Check for the CP Multi View Events Calendar plugin version 1.4.42 or lower. Inspect WordPress admin panels for enabled frontend edition options in calendar views. Look for unauthenticated add endpoints and public nonces in calendar configurations.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers could inject harmful scripts into your website. These scripts may steal user data, hijack sessions, or deface pages. The attack requires an administrator to enable a specific frontend editing option, exposing an unauthenticated endpoint.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, violating GDPR and HIPAA by exposing user data. Stored XSS may allow attackers to access sensitive information, resulting in non-compliance with privacy regulations and potential legal consequences.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the CP Multi View Events Calendar plugin to the latest version. Disable the frontend edition option in all calendar views. Remove any unauthenticated add endpoints and revoke public nonces. Monitor for suspicious script injections in page content.
