Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves improper control of JIT elevation settings in PAM checkout for Devolutions Server 2026.3.8.0 and earlier. An authenticated user with PAM checkout access can manipulate these settings to delete arbitrary Active Directory groups or retain elevated privileges by sending a malicious checkout update request.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with PAM checkout access could escalate privileges, delete critical Active Directory groups, or maintain unauthorized elevated access. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized system changes, or disruption of services relying on Active Directory.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements by enabling unauthorized privilege escalation or data access, potentially leading to breaches of GDPR (data protection) or HIPAA (health data privacy). Organizations using Devolutions Server may face penalties for failing to protect sensitive data.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Devolutions Server to a version later than 2026.3.8.0 to address the improper JIT elevation settings. Review and restrict PAM checkout access permissions to prevent unauthorized modifications to Active Directory groups.
