Description

A vulnerability was found in Wavlink WN530HG4B M30HG4B_V260724. The impacted element is an unknown function of the file api.cgi. The manipulation results in heap-based buffer overflow. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploit has been made public and could be used. Upgrading to version 2026-09-24-841a51c6d5_tclinux.bin is sufficient to resolve this issue. The affected component should be upgraded. The vendor confirms: "We confirm the finding, and it has already been addressed. In the current firmware the api=info&client=app handler no longer builds a shell command: the login script is now invoked through an argument vector (execvp) instead of system(), and the client address is length-limited and null-checked."

CWE ID Description
CWE-122 A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc().
CWE-119 The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it reads from or writes to a memory location outside the buffer's intended boundary. This may result in read or write operations on unexpected memory locations that could be linked to other variables, data structures, or internal program data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a heap-based buffer overflow in the Wavlink WN530HG4B M30HG4B_V260724 device, specifically in the api.cgi file. It allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by manipulating the api=info&client=app handler, which previously used system() to build shell commands. The vendor fixed it by switching to execvp with length-limited and null-checked client addresses.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your Wavlink WN530HG4B device is running firmware older than 2026-09-24-841a51c6d5_tclinux.bin. Inspect the firmware version via the device's admin panel or CLI. Monitor network traffic for unusual activity targeting api.cgi or shell command execution attempts.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on the device with high privileges, potentially leading to full system compromise. Attackers could gain control over the device, steal sensitive data, or use it as a pivot point for further attacks in the network.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade the device firmware to version 2026-09-24-841a51c6d5_tclinux.bin or later immediately. Disable remote access to api.cgi if not required. Implement network segmentation to limit exposure. Monitor for signs of exploitation such as unexpected shell commands or unauthorized access attempts.
