Stored XSS in GetPaid WordPress Plugin

Description

The Payment forms, Buy now buttons, and Invoicing System | GetPaid plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'mmdwqzpoxadd' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 2.8.61 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The required nonce (getpaid_form_nonce) is publicly emitted to all visitors via wp_localize_script as WPInv.formNonce, meaning no authentication or prior nonce leak is needed; the stored payload fires when an administrator views the affected invoice's Payment Form Details metabox.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the GetPaid WordPress plugin. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts via the 'mmdwqzpoxadd' parameter due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. The injected scripts execute when a user, including an administrator, views an affected invoice's Payment Form Details metabox.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress sites using the GetPaid plugin for versions up to 2.8.61. Inspect pages for injected scripts in the 'mmdwqzpoxadd' parameter. Look for unusual admin metabox content in invoices. Use security plugins like Wordfence to scan for stored XSS patterns.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal sensitive user data like cookies or session tokens, perform actions on behalf of users, or deface websites. Since the nonce is publicly exposed, no prior authentication is needed for exploitation. Administrators viewing compromised invoices are particularly at risk.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal data, violating GDPR's data protection principles and HIPAA's security requirements. It may result in data breaches, leading to regulatory fines and legal consequences for non-compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the GetPaid plugin to the latest version beyond 2.8.61. Disable the plugin temporarily if an update is unavailable. Implement strict input validation for all form parameters. Monitor admin dashboards for unexpected scripts or payloads.
