Improper Neutralization of Code in Ultralytics FastSAM

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-111237, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Description

A weakness has been identified in Ultralytics FastSAM up to b4ed20c2fed75eadc5aa7d8b09fedd137b873b52. This affects the function session.get_modelmeta.custom_metadata_map of the file ultralytics/nn/autobackend.py of the component AutoBackend Model Loading. This manipulation of the argument imgsz/names/kpt_shape causes improper neutralization of directives in dynamically evaluated code. The attack requires local access. This product uses a rolling release model to deliver continuous updates. As a result, specific version information for affected or updated releases is not available. The project was informed of the problem early through an issue report but has not responded yet.

CWE ID Description
CWE-95 The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes code syntax before using the input in a dynamic evaluation call (e.g. "eval").
CWE-94 The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability exists in Ultralytics FastSAM due to unsafe use of Python's eval() function in the AutoBackend model loading code. When loading a model, the code evaluates ONNX metadata strings containing values like imgsz, names, and kpt_shape without proper validation. An attacker can craft a malicious .onnx file with hostile metadata that executes arbitrary code during model loading before any inference occurs.

Detection Guidance

Check for FastSAM installations using the vulnerable ultralytics library version 8.0.120. Inspect model files for malicious ONNX metadata containing eval() calls. Look for unexpected code execution during model loading in logs.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with local access could exploit this to execute arbitrary code on your system when you load a specially crafted model file. This could lead to data theft, system compromise, or further network infiltration. The attack occurs automatically during model loading, before any intended model functionality.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized code execution, potentially causing data breaches that violate GDPR's integrity and confidentiality requirements or HIPAA's security rules for protected health information. Organizations using affected versions may face compliance violations if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the vendored ultralytics library to version 8.3.234 or later. Replace eval() with ast.literal_eval() in the AutoBackend.__init__ method. Avoid loading untrusted ONNX model files.
